Built for Texas heat
A Texas summer asks more of a van than a Midwest winter does, and the answer starts in the walls. The insulation that holds warmth in on a cold night also slows the sun coming through the roof and the steel sides.
The Pro package adds RecPro air conditioning, and the Parbat's roof takes the air conditioner and a rooftop tent together. The Webasto diesel heater stays standard, for a Hill Country night in January.
Camper vans for sale to Austin buyers
Every camper van for sale on this page starts from one of three Sprinter layouts, each sold as Core or Pro. As a van builder, Highland Vans builds standard layouts rather than one-off customs, and each layout is a Class B RV. The price covers the complete vehicle, including the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter it is built on.

From Elk Grove Village to Austin
Many of our owners are not local. We’re in Elk Grove Village, IL — 15 minutes from O’Hare — and many buyers fly in, do a full orientation walkthrough at the shop, and drive their van home as the first road trip. The drive home runs south from Chicago through Missouri and Oklahoma, and past Dallas into Austin. It is a long first road trip on the interstate, which is a good way to learn the van before a Texas summer.
Trips from Austin
Big Bend is the long one: remote, hot and a long way from a hookup. The Parbat is built for weeks off-grid, with an interior shower cabin and the full tanked water system with hot water as standard.
Closer to home, the Hill Country and the Gulf Coast are weekend trips. The Aoraki has the easiest daily-driver footprint in the lineup, for a van that also does the week's errands.
Questions from Austin buyers
Is air conditioning included?
It comes with the Pro package, which adds RecPro air conditioning. The Parbat is the one roof that fits the air conditioner and a rooftop tent together. The upgrades page lists the air conditioners that fit each roof.
Is there a Highland Vans showroom in Austin?
No. There is one shop, in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, 15 minutes from O’Hare, and every van is designed, built and handed over there.
Can I see a van before I travel?
Start with a conversation on the contact page: an e-mail, a video call, or a visit to the shop. A video call covers the layouts, the options and the price before you book a flight, and the facility tour and the design centre visit are there when you come in.
Do I have to come back to Chicago for warranty work?
Not necessarily. Call us first: for covered repairs away from Chicago, we’ll pre-authorize a certified RV technician or marine electrician near you and pay for the approved work directly — no paying out of pocket and waiting on reimbursement. Because we build with open-architecture, standardized components, local techs can handle most jobs.
How long does a build take?
Two answers. If a van in our inventory matches the spec you want, it’s available for immediate purchase — ask what’s on the floor right now. If not, a typical build takes about three months from reserving your build slot, and we’ll confirm your delivery window when you reserve. Either way, because we build standard layouts rather than one-off customs, you’re not waiting in a year-long custom queue.
Does the price include the van itself?
Yes. Pricing on this page covers the complete vehicle — the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter high-roof chassis and the full Highland Vans conversion.
