A Highland Vans Sprinter with its pop-top roof raised, parked at a forest pull-off with the sun breaking through the pines behind it

Camper Vans for Portland and Oregon

Highland Vans builds in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and has no Oregon location. Portland buyers fly in to collect the van and drive it home, or ask for a quote on enclosed transport.

Built for Oregon rain

West of the Cascades the season is wet, and the work is keeping a small cabin warm and dry. Thinsulate in the roof and walls, XPS foam under the floor and a standard Webasto diesel heater are the answer on every build.

East of the mountains the high desert runs hot in summer, which is where the Pro package's RecPro air conditioning earns its place.

Camper vans for sale to Portland buyers

Every camper van for sale on this page starts from one of three Sprinter layouts, each sold as Core or Pro. As a van builder, Highland Vans builds standard layouts rather than one-off customs, and each layout is a Class B RV. The price covers the complete vehicle, including the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter it is built on.

From Elk Grove Village to Portland

Many of our owners are not local. We’re in Elk Grove Village, IL — 15 minutes from O’Hare — and many buyers fly in, do a full orientation walkthrough at the shop, and drive their van home as the first road trip. Prefer it brought to you? We can also arrange enclosed transport nationwide — ask for a quote.

The drive home runs west through Iowa, Nebraska and Wyoming, then up through Idaho and along the Columbia River Gorge into Portland.

Trips from Portland

Mount Hood, the Oregon coast and the Gorge are the weekend trips. The Painted Hills and Crater Lake are the long ones.

The forest roads on Mount Hood are gravel and wet for much of the year, which is what the AWD Sprinter under every model is for.

Questions from Portland buyers

Is there a Highland Vans showroom in Portland?

No. There is one shop, in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, 15 minutes from O’Hare, and every van is designed, built and handed over there.

Can I see a van before I travel?

Start with a conversation on the contact page: an e-mail, a video call, or a visit to the shop. A video call covers the layouts, the options and the price before you book a flight, and the facility tour and the design centre visit are there when you come in.

Do I have to come back to Chicago for warranty work?

Not necessarily. Call us first: for covered repairs away from Chicago, we’ll pre-authorize a certified RV technician or marine electrician near you and pay for the approved work directly — no paying out of pocket and waiting on reimbursement. Because we build with open-architecture, standardized components, local techs can handle most jobs.

How long does a build take?

Two answers. If a van in our inventory matches the spec you want, it’s available for immediate purchase — ask what’s on the floor right now. If not, a typical build takes about three months from reserving your build slot, and we’ll confirm your delivery window when you reserve. Either way, because we build standard layouts rather than one-off customs, you’re not waiting in a year-long custom queue.

Does the price include the van itself?

Yes. Pricing on this page covers the complete vehicle — the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter high-roof chassis and the full Highland Vans conversion. The only things not included are tax, title, registration, and any add-ons you select. (Already own a Sprinter? We quote those conversions individually — see “Can you convert a van I already own?”)
