Camper Vans for San Francisco and the Bay Area

Highland Vans has no Bay Area location. Every van is built in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, near Chicago O’Hare, and San Francisco buyers fly in to collect it or ask for a quote on enclosed transport.

Built for fog, valley heat and Sierra snow

Bay Area weather changes with the direction you drive: fog on the coast, heat in the Central Valley, snow in the Sierra in winter.

One build covers all three. Four-season insulation and a Webasto diesel heater are standard, and the Pro package adds RecPro air conditioning.

Camper vans for sale to San Francisco buyers

Every camper van for sale on this page starts from one of three Sprinter layouts, each sold as Core or Pro. As a van builder, Highland Vans builds standard layouts rather than one-off customs, and each layout is a Class B RV. The price covers the complete vehicle, including the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter it is built on.

  • The same AORAKI in a forest clearing, sliding door open on the galley and the rear storage box swung out

    Aoraki

The 144” layout that prioritizes a real bed and a real garage. Murphy bed, 5’+ of rear cargo space, and the easiest daily-driver footprint in the lineup.

    Starting MSRP
    $145,000
  • The same Kinabalu parked outside a stadium, sliding door open on the belted rear seats, two camp chairs and a cooler set out beside it

    Kinabalu

The 144” van that’s also the family car. Four belted seats, a rear dinette that converts to a day bed, and the optional TV/game console package no other model offers

    Starting MSRP
    $150,000
  • The same Parbat beside a misty lake in autumn, rooftop tent raised and the sliding door open on the interior

    Parbat

Our 170” extended off-grid rig. Interior shower cabin, dinette plus Murphy bed, and the only roof that fits AC and a rooftop tent together, with the tent as an upgrade.

    Starting MSRP
    $170,000

From Elk Grove Village to San Francisco

Many of our owners are not local. We’re in Elk Grove Village, IL — 15 minutes from O’Hare — and many buyers fly in, do a full orientation walkthrough at the shop, and drive their van home as the first road trip. Prefer it brought to you? We can also arrange enclosed transport nationwide — ask for a quote.

The drive home follows one interstate most of the way, through Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah and Nevada, and over Donner Pass into California.

Trips from San Francisco

Big Sur, Point Reyes and the Mendocino coast are the fog-side trips. Yosemite and Lake Tahoe are the mountain ones.

Parking is the other constraint in the city. The Aoraki and the Kinabalu share the shorter of the two body lengths, and the Aoraki has the easiest daily-driver footprint in the lineup.

Questions from San Francisco buyers

Is there a Highland Vans showroom in San Francisco?

No. There is one shop, in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, 15 minutes from O’Hare, and every van is designed, built and handed over there.

Can I see a van before I travel?

Start with a conversation on the contact page: an e-mail, a video call, or a visit to the shop. A video call covers the layouts, the options and the price before you book a flight, and the facility tour and the design centre visit are there when you come in.

Do I have to come back to Chicago for warranty work?

Not necessarily. Call us first: for covered repairs away from Chicago, we’ll pre-authorize a certified RV technician or marine electrician near you and pay for the approved work directly — no paying out of pocket and waiting on reimbursement. Because we build with open-architecture, standardized components, local techs can handle most jobs.

How long does a build take?

Two answers. If a van in our inventory matches the spec you want, it’s available for immediate purchase — ask what’s on the floor right now. If not, a typical build takes about three months from reserving your build slot, and we’ll confirm your delivery window when you reserve. Either way, because we build standard layouts rather than one-off customs, you’re not waiting in a year-long custom queue.

Does the price include the van itself?

Yes. Pricing on this page covers the complete vehicle — the new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter high-roof chassis and the full Highland Vans conversion. The only things not included are tax, title, registration, and any add-ons you select. (Already own a Sprinter? We quote those conversions individually — see “Can you convert a van I already own?”)
